about

Mull of the Mountains / Cuffe’s Retreat* (Ed Pearlman) / Mr Murray / Daldowny’s / Uist Regatta* (Ed Pearlman) – I always enjoyed performing with Scottish singer and guitarist Tony Cuffe and miss him. Mull of the Mountains is one tune we often played. I wrote the retreat air “Cuffe’s Retreat” when I heard he was moving back to Scotland after 10 years in Boston. Things went from bad to worse when he got cancer, and I only played this tune after writing two more parts a few months ago; now it seems to tell the right story. Uist Regatta was written as a two-part tune after visiting South Uist in 1987; my brother-in-law, pipe major Ray Scott, prevailed on me (thanks, Ray!) to write the last two parts in 1997.
