about

Forglen House (Wm. Marshall) / Miss Gordon of Gight (I. Cooper) /Gordon Castle (Wm Marshall) / Mr Edward Wagstaff’s Fancy (Wm Marshall) / Kohler’s Hornpipe – William Marshall wrote over 200 great tunes; I’ve played Forglen House since the early 80s but Neil’s first chord, a minor 11 voicing in the style of jazz pianist Kenny Baron, sets the tune up in a new way. The arrangement of Kohler’s comes from memories of a 6-part arrangement I did for the 1994 Scottish Fiddle Rally concert with Alasdair Fraser and Jerry Holland. My friend Arthur Ganson asked me after one of the rehearsals whether I had heard Eileen Ivers’ new album. I hadn’t, so he took me to his sculpture studio and treated me to a listen; on one track she too blends Kohler’s with Pachelbel’s Canon.
